Tribal wedding revived

MAASIM, Sarangani (March 14, 2017) - Municipal Tribal Chieftain Fulung Benjamin Donato officiates the wedding of Joko Lumbos and Jelly Ganton in accordance to indigenous culture and traditions on March 8 at Snalang, Tinoto. Chieftain Donato, who is also the provincial assessor, emphasized the value of the Blaan/Tboli rites as he holds a plate of rice for the bride and groom to partake with. An elder sitting between the bride and groom is the one who will declare them a couple. There was no kissing of the bride in the tribal rites. Young Indigenous Peoples (IPs) who witnessed the tribal rites realized the sacredness of cultural heritage from their forefathers. Welding training in Maitum

MAITUM, Sarangani (March 9, 2017) - Students for Skills Training on Welding perform the basics of welding at the Municipal Gymnasium on March 7. The qualified beneficiaries of this project are out-school-youth, 4Ps and family heads who will undergo 30 days of training until they meet the objectives of the project. Survey begins in Kiamba

KIAMBA, Sarangani (March 9, 2017) - The Community-Based Monitoring System program kicks off March 3 in a joint effort between the Department of Interior and Local Government and CBMS team. This initiative aims to survey for poverty diagnosis, disaster risk reduction management and climate change adaptation, and for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals. The CBMS is an organized process for data collection, processing, validation and use of data for various development processes. The CBMS team will make their rounds throughout the different barangays to do their data gathering and to implement their development plans based on the data they collect. Project connects seaside villages

KIAMBA, Sarangani (March 9, 2017) – This is the ground breaking ceremony of the double barrel reinforced concrete box culvert in Barangay Lomuyon on March 8. This project is a joint effort between the Lomuyon Barangay Council, BSPMC, and Kalahi-CIDSS. Present in the ceremony were members of Lomuyon Barangay Council and BSPMC. IPs perform at ground breaking rites

Blaan mat weaver declared national artist

MALAPATAN, Sarangani (March 9, 2017) - Barangay Chairman Moner Calulong and his councilors acknowledge the appearance of Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) national artist on mat weaving Bae Estelita Tumandan Bantilan (in tribal dress, center), from Sitio Upper Lasang, during a courtesy call and orientation in the regular session of the Sangguniang Pambarangay on March 1 at Barangay Sapu Masla. Along with them were the representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Reden Ulo and Maribeth Bantilan Farnazo of the Provincial IMPR office who nominated her to the NCCA. From the Office of the President, Proclamation No. 126 on January 6, 2017 upon the recommendation of the NCCA pursuant to RA 7355 which provides for the recognition of National Living Treasures, President Rodrigo Duterte declared Bantilan, 75, as Manlilikha Ng Bayan for 2016.
