Disaster first responders trained

Kids mark Disaster Consciousness Month

MAITUM, Sarangani (July 10, 2017) - In line with Disaster Consciousness Month, pupils of Perrett Central Elementary School commit to join the earthquake drill with the theme "Kamalayan at Kahandaan, Katumbas ay Kaligtasan" held at Barangay Kalaong on July 6. It was spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of Maitum through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by focal person Raymund Mayled together with the Bureau of Fire Protection and Maitum Police Station personnel who taught the kids to prepare and respond appropriately during disaster. MAITUM, Sarangani (July 10, 2017) – Selected elementary and high students attend the presentation of the Proposed Municipal Children’s Code at the Municipal Auditorium on June 5. The event was initiated by the Local Government Unit of Maitum through the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office together with Save the Children project officer Louie Bollanday. The purpose of the presentation covers some principles such as non-discrimination, best interest and right of education and survival that aims to empower the next generation with knowledge about their rights and enabling them to become active citizens in changing the world. PRRI wants upland rice revived

ALABEL, Sarangani (July 10, 2017) - Jonathan Niones (standing), chief science research specialist of the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PRRI), presents to Sarangani Provincial Tribal Council (SPTC) officers on July 6 at Capitol conference room the project entitled Profiling and Seed Purification/Multiplication of Selected Traditional Varieties (TRVs) in Support of the Department of Agriculture’s Initiative for Exporting Quality Rice. The project aims to collect TRVs and characterize their morphological phenotype, grain quality, pest/disease resistance and DNA fingerprinting at PRRI, Science City of Munoz, Nueva Ecija. Sarangani Province has more than 100 Traditional Upland Rice varieties in the indigenous people’s communities as per results of research conducted by the Mindanao State University (MSU) in General Santos City. As required under RA 8371 known as Indigenous Peoples Right Acts (IPRA) Law, any project that would affect the interest of the indigenous peoples must have to ask permission from the tribal leaders if they allow it or not. Tourism, GAD in Kiamba barangays

KIAMBA, Sarangani (July 10, 2017) – Constituents and barangay officials gather on July 6 to participate in the Provincial Tourism Office’s Tourism Awareness and Gad Seminar. The activity held at the Kiamba Tourism Office focused on the positive effects and opportunities of tourism on the community. The seminar also tackled the issue of gender equality in society.
