MAITUM, Sarangani (August 18, 2017) - John Mark “Marky” Jocson Odani never dreamed of becoming a modern day hero until the 3rd day of August 2017 when the 14th Gawad Geny Lopez gave him the Bayaning Kabataang Pilipino 2017 Award at the Dolphy Theater, ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City.
Marky is a resident of Purok Greenfield, Barangay Wali in Maitum, Sarangani Province. He comes from a poor family. His father died when he was 10 years old. His mother is a barangay treasurer who is receiving a monthly honorarium of less than a thousand pesos then. He has one sibling and he is the elder.
Life was hard and his mother had to doubly work to earn for their keeps. Mark sold boiled bananas to his classmates just to help his mother make both ends meet.
ALABEL, Sarangani (August 17, 2017) - The month of August is known to be the Adolescent Health Month and in line with this is the program of the Department of Health (DOH) of having a yearly school-based immunization.
The DOH has come up with this routine immunization plan because of the increasing outbreaks of measles. With the coordination of the Regional Health Offices and the Provincial Health Office (PHO), public schools in Sarangani are to be scheduled for the said program every year.
The Sarangani PHO was awarded as the Best Performing Province region-wide with an accomplishment of 94% for Grade 1 and 91% for Grade 7, during the 2016 School Based Immunization.
ALABEL, Sarangani (August 17, 2017) – Sarangani has consistently maintained its status as the best Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council in Region 12.
This is the fourth time Sarangani has bested provinces in the region since 2014, and fourth time as finalist at the national level.
In the recently-concluded awarding ceremony for the Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance, the provinces of South Cotabato and Cotabato followed Sarangani in the second and third places, respectively.
Gawad Kalasag is the country’s premier annual awards which the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recognizes thru the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) outstanding contributions in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) and humanitarian assistance.
GENERAL SANTOS CITY (August 16, 2017) – Malungon Quick Response Team ranks 1st place in the Government Emergency Response Management-Basic in the 2017 Regional Gawad Kalasag Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance. Ranking 2nd place is GenSan 727 while TRACER Rescue Group from Tacurong City gets 3rd place. Malungon also earned the 2nd place in the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in the 1st to 3rd class category. GENERAL SANTOS CITY (August 16, 2017) – With full of pride, Barangay Captain Lydia Hizoler shows off the award that Barangay Calabanit obtains for besting all the other barangays in Region 12 belonging to the rural category in the 2017 Regional Gawad Kalasag Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Humanitarian Assistance on August 10. KIAMBA, Sarangani (August 16, 2017) - Representatives from the Land Transportation Office visit Kiamba on August 14 to witness and accredit the deputation of selected LGU employees, PNP and KARANCHO group for the implementation of the School Zone Speed Limit Municipal Ordinance. The oath taking was led by Mayor Raul Martinez in response to Municipal Ordinance No. 2016-002, which states that a speed limit shall be imposed on all motorized vehicles within the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Kiamba providing penalties for violations. The machine that costs P140,000 was given to the Local Government Unit of Maitum by the Environmental Management Bureau Region 12 to turn plastic and bottle garbage into another merchandise my means of shredding. MAITUM, Sarangani (August 11, 2017) - With the theme "Ensuring the Gains of Electrification Through Enlightened Member-Consumer,-Owner", the 8th National Electrification Awareness Month kicks off by releasing 158 pawikan hatchlings at Barangay Old Poblacion on August 9. The event was participated in by personnel of SOCOTECO II main office, Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum. As a part of their celebration, they also donated P15,000 through the initiative of the Tourism Section of the Local Government Unit of Maitum for 1 unit tub to be installed at the said area.
