ALABEL, Sarangani (September 30, 2017) – The Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS) Technical Training Project has gathered 25 people in Sarangani province to be scholars who are willing to broaden and develop their skills for employment opportunities.

The scholars are composed of out-of-school youth, college students, and employed people.

Before they proceeded to the training proper, the participants first took the course requirements of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DITC) such as online seat works, quizzes, practical test, and creative projects to make sure they are capable of taking the RIS course.

The six-week training includes three weeks hands-on and three weeks online training. The training also recognizes the role of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to provide employment opportunities and contribute to economic growth especially within their locality.

“The goal of the program is to train out-of-school youth and even employed people in the countryside with the skills that are high in demand in terms of online freelancing skills,” said Karla Singson, one of the trainers. “The government saw a potential in this project because there are lots of untapped skills and knowledge, and in fact these things are just easily learned.”

“The kind of jobs that they might get after this training does not require the scholars to have diploma, only skills. That is why the government aimed them to be trained with the skills to give them better opportunities,” Singson added.

The RIS Technical Training Project would empower the countryside or the ones who do not have much access to things such as fast internet connection and computers unlike in the cities.

The training was made possible with the support of DCTECH Micro Services, Inc. for the internet connection, the provincial government for the food and accommodation of the participants and trainers, and the Department of Trade and Industry. (Donna Mahusay/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
