GENERAL SANTOS CITY (April 10, 2018) – The Office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Sarangani reported that it has released a total of 27 Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) last month.

The areas covered by the CLOAs released totaled 41 hectares of farmlands in Maitum, Kiamba and Malungon.

CLOA is basically a title of land issued by the DAR. It is an end-product of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

According to Ramonito Marciano, Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer for Land Tenure Security Program, “the CLOA gives the farmer beneficiary complete control of the land he tills”.

“It (CLOA) opens the gate to the vast opportunities and brighter hopes” to improve the quality of life of the farmers, Marciano added.

Among the beneficiaries of CLOAs were 25 farmers from General Santos City.

DAR reported that Sarangani and Gensan’s CLOAs covered a total of 95 hectares.

For Costaniano Anthony Ore, a farmer beneficiary in General Santos City, the CARP is “a God-given gift for the landless farmers. Having full ownership of the land,” he said, releases their burden of paying rents or share to the land owners.

“We feel secured when we see our name on the land title,” Ore said.

Farmer Julia Puertas, 65, expressed gratitude to the government for the “sincere commitment” of giving “land to the landless.”

“Thanks to the government, I already own the land we’ve been tilling for the past 34 years”, were the words she uttered after she received her CLOA from DAR.

Meanwhile, Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II Felix C. Frias gave a marching order to all Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officers in Sarangani to ensure that the farmer beneficiaries receive relevant and timely support services.

Frias said these beneficiaries should be linked to farmer organizations or Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations in order to have access to livelihood, post-harvest facilities, capability building, enterprise development, and credit program of the department. (Agnes Torino-DAR Sarangani)
