This year, the celebration of Fire Prevention Month is anchored on the theme “Kaalaman at Pagtutulungan ng Sambayanan, Kaligtasan ay Makakamtan.”
This annual observance is based on Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A which provides for the education and awareness throughout the summer months to reduce incidences of fire in the country.
SFO3 Erlic Espaἧol, team leader of BFP Maitum, said the walk was an effective way of advocating to the townsfolk the precautionary measures against fire and other related incidences and drawing their support to the activities of BFP.
Meanwhile, Mayor Pepito Catimbang took advantage of the activity to remind the public to adhere to BFP’s safety awareness program.
“Being your local chief executive here in Maitum,” Catimbang said, “everyone is encouraged to be fire-safety conscious as a shared responsibility and everybody’s concern.”
There is a need “for better communication and collaboration of efforts if we want to achieve zero-fire incident here in Maitum,” he added.
The walk was also conducted in partnership with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).
MDRRM Officer Raymond Mayled echoed Catimbang’s statement and pointed out the importance of involvement of the different agencies in emergency response, prevention, and preparedness towards building a fire and disaster resilient community.
A series of fire drills, massive inspection of establishments and residential areas are among the activities BFP Maitum have lined-up this month. (F02 Osias Paoyon/Maitum BFP for SARANGANI IINFORMATION OFFICE)
