DOH Central Office, Manila (March 13, 2017) - Sarangani is one of the two recipients of the “Grant-Aid Dangerous Drug Abuse Treatment Rehabilitation Centers Project” which is one of the outcomes of China visit of President Duterte last year.
The Government of the People’s Republic of China acting through its Ministry of Commerce represented by JIN YUAN, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of China in the Philippines; and the Government of Republic of the Philippines through its Department of Health represented by Assistant Secretary of Health Elmer G. Punzalan had the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) this morning, March 13, 2017 at the conference room of the office of the Health Secretary. This was attended by Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon, Vice Governor Elmer T. De Peralta, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Arvin C. Alejandro and DOH Acting Regional Director Francisco V. Mateo. Governor Solon pledged to counterpart the 3-hectares land requirement of the project.
The MOA specified Sarangani and Agusan Del Sur as the project recipients. A 350 million peso worth of Drug Rehabilitation Facility with a 150-bed capacity including Recovery Clinic has been targeted to be constructed this year.
The Chinese Engineers from Tonji University who had an ocular inspection of possible sites in Sarangani 2 weeks ago accompanied by governor Solon and Dr. Alejandro decided to put up the facility in Kawas, Alabel, Sarangani Province. It will be a DOH-operated and managed facility to cater drug dependents from the SOCSKSARGEN area.
