Sarangani strengthens disaster preparedness

ALABEL, Sarangani (August 5, 2022) – Provincial Administrator Atty. Ryan Jay Ramos has called a meeting of offices that handle different social welfare issues and disaster preparedness that need to be addressed during calamities.

This was in response to the recent flooding incidents and other possible disasters and calamities that Sarangani may experience. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), and the provincial and regional offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) conducted the meeting with the provincial administrator on August 4 at the conference room, JLC building.

On behalf of Governor Rogelio "Ruel" D. Pacquiao, Atty. Ramos stated that the provincial government will give full support to the concerned offices in order to provide a quick and accurate response in times of distress.

Edith Mahilum of PSWDO proposed a number of programs and training, including allowances and incentives for trainees as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) for authorized workers and residents.

The meeting also centered on the different target sites the PSWDO will visit to conduct orientation on disaster resilience and provide necessary materials in times of calamity.

PDRRM Officer Rene A. Punzalan outlined the seven municipalities in the province to be "at-risk" areas during heavy rain, which he said "maaring maapektohan ng matinding pagbaha."

In an illustration presented by Punzalan, he listed the possible calamities that are "most likely" to occur in the identified areas, especially those that have been hit by flash floods due to recent heavy rainfall.

He also tackled the province’s peace and order situation and reiterated that sustaining this is "every Sarangan’s role." (Rey Gatcho/PROVINCIAL ADMINISTRATOR'S OFFICE)
