MAITUM, Sarangani (October 31, 2021) - Project Management Service of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Central Office Director Ronal Gareza and Mayor Alexander Bryan B. Reganit officiate the ribbon-cutting during the blessing and turn over ceremony of Cattleya Farm to Market Road (FMR) with lined canal and FIEMCO FMR at Barangay Malalag, and Barangay Old Poblacion, respectively, on October 27. The Cattleya road which measures 550 meters, and FIEMCO road which measures 1.18 km., would enable farmers and other business sectors of the two barangays to easily deliver and sell their crops, products, and other processed goods in the nearest market. BATULAKI, Glan, Sarangani (October 31, 2021) – The Magellan-Elcano voyage quincentennial historical marker in Barangay Batulaki is unveiled by Mayor Vivien Yap (2nd from left); Gina Batuhan, Historic Sites and Education Division Chief of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (extreme right); Tourism Undersecretary for Tourism Regulation, Coordination and Resource Generation Roberto Alabado III (2nd from right); and Rhoa Wadingan, Glan’s tourism officer (extreme left). The marker was formally unveiled on October 26, 2021 exactly 500 years after the crew of the world’s first circumnavigation temporarily dropped anchor off the shores of Batulaki. The marker sits on a promontory of a cove where the men of the fallen Ferdinand Magellan were sheltering from what the Magellan-Elcano voyage chronicler Antonio Pigaffeta described as the “most furious storm.” (Martin Fernando E. The historical marker was installed with the 33 other markers within Philippine territory where the Magellan-Elcano expedition had brief stops along their voyage. In Batulaki, the chronicler Antonio Pigaffeta recounted the remaining crew of the expedition sheltered along its shores from the “most furious storm” he described that almost submerged the remaining ships the Trinidad and the Victoria. BATULAKI, Glan, Sarangani (October 31, 2021) - Board Member Tranquilino Ruiz III, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Tourism chairperson, narrates the voyage of the first circumnavigation of the world to the residents of Batulaki and guests during the unveiling program for the quincentennial historical marker. “We take pride as Sarangans that our beloved province, Sarangani, played a key part in the first circumnavigation of the globe” which he said despite the hurdles brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, “it is important that we participate in the National Quincentennial Commemoration” particularly in Batulaki where according to him the chronicler Antonio Pigaffeta recounted the remaining crew of the expedition experienced a furious storm and by the shore of Biraham Batolach, now known as Batulaki, they were forced to cast anchor from October 26-27, 1521. The quincentennial historical marker in Batulaki was unveiled on October 26, 2021, 500 years after the Biraham Batolach episode. Ruiz, a physician, is also a local historian of Glan. GENERAL SANTOS CITY (October 28, 2021) – Arlan Mangelen, Department of Agriculture XII regional executive director, leads the signing of the pledge of support during the Stakeholders Forum and the 30th Foundation Anniversary of the SOCSKSARGEN Area Development Project Office (ADPO) on October 25. The activity symbolizes the fervent support and commitment of all the partners of ADPO to accelerate the development of the agri-industrial sector of SOCSKSARGEN through the collective policy measures, development initiatives and resolutions towards greater economic opportunities for the people and to increase the income of the farmers and fisherfolks in the region. The activity was joined by the local government units in Region 12, private business sectors and non-government organizations. The rubber demonstration farm will be situated in Carmen, North Cotabato and would serve as the research station in demonstrating rubber clones and other varieties of rubbers to help the rubber farmers in SOCSKSARGEN in the integration of their products. GENERAL SANTOS CITY (October 28, 2021) – Sarangani Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon (on-screen) speaks before guests during the Stakeholders Forum and the 30th Foundation Anniversary of the SOCSKSARGEN Area Development Project Office (ADPO) on October 25. In his address, Solon highlighted the impacts of the support of the ADPO in the SOCSKSARGEN region for the past 30 years particularly in the development of the key economic programs and projects on the agriculture and industrial sectors, and in sustaining the economic growth. Solon is also the vice chairperson of the SOCSKSARGEN ADP Board who has been very supportive to the development of the various agricultural programs in the region like the provision of assistance for the farmers and fisherfolks. In Sarangani, ADPO’s support facilitated the expansion of the farm-to-market road projects in the province. The office also provided Sarangani post-harvest facilities.
