MAITUM, Sarangani (October 20, 2021) – The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist through its Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD-Sarangani) program formally turnover a rice mill building to the Yama Farmers Association on October 13. SAAD-Sarangani project manager Agnes Du handed over a certificate of turnover to Tuanadatu Barangay Captain Espaldon Tuanadatu. The post-harvest facility is part of the assistance of the SAAD program to Sarangani amounting to P100 million. Other identified SAAD beneficiaries in the province will also receive other agri-infrastructure facilities like multipurpose drying pavement, market shed, and corn mill building. “The greatest accomplishment of the SAAD project,” according to Du, is the increasing “upland rice area” in Sarangani. She said, "from the total land area of 1,375 in 2016, meron na tayong more than 4,000 upland rice areas as of December last year.” The SAAD is a program of the Department of Agriculture intended to help alleviate poverty among the marginalized sectors – agriculture and fishery.
