Volunteers plant mangrove seedlings
MAITUM, Sarangani (February 21, 2022) - The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) conducts a mangrove planting and coastal clean-up drive at Barangay Kalaong on February 18. At six o’clock in the morning, after the coastal clean-up drive, participants proceeded to Kalaong river banks for mangrove planting. The volunteers successfully planted about 520 mangrove seedlings in the area. Mangroves are considered as barriers during typhoons and floods. Pacquiao recalls Maasim’s rise to progress
MAASIM, Sarangani (February 21, 2022) – Mayor Zyrex Pacquiao expresses his gratitude to all the individuals and agencies who are part of the continuous progress of Maasim during the ceremonial groundbreaking of the construction of the Level II water supply and the concreting of the farm-to-market (FMR) road on February 16 at Barangay Lumasal. Pacquiao looked back how Maasim was as a municipality years ago and reflected how blessed the town is because of the progress which are constantly coming. “Tungod sa atong pagpaningkamot ug panaghiusa, sa tabang sa atong Ginoo, padulong ang atong munisipyo sa padayon nga pag-uswag tungod kay wala na kita sa sitwasyon nga kanunay adunay armadong panagsangka sa atong komunidad,” Pacquiao said. The multimillion projects were made possible through the initiative and support of Congressman Ruel Pacquiao, Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon, Vice Governor Elmer De Peralta, all the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members and Senator Manny Pacquiao. More ELCAC barangays to receive government projects
MAASIM, Sarangani (February 21, 2022) – Provincial ELCAC (End Local Communist Armed Conflict) focal person Lizette Lopez speaks before guests during the ceremonial groundbreaking of the construction of the Level II water supply and the concreting of the farm-to-market (FMR) road on February 16 at Barangay Bales. Lopez urged the locals to value the projects from the government that give comfort and ease their way of living. She said “ang success sa isa ka programa dili na sya makita kung wala inyong participation.” Lopez said that the groundbreaking of the infrastructure projects was part of the P20 million development assistance package from the national government through the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Lopez also updated that from the 16 identified barangays in Sarangani ], there were four additional ELCAC barangays that will benefit from the implementation of Executive Order 70 and the Serbisyo Caravan para sa Sarangan. Maitum MENRO leads coastal clean-up drive
MAITUM, Sarangani (February 21, 2022) - The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) organizes a coastal clean-up drive at Barangay Kalaong on February 18. This activity which kicks off every Friday of the month aims to help and protect marine life from the pollution brought by any types of trash. The activity was participated in by Philippine National Police personnel, PNP Maritime group, Maitum Women’s Association, barangay officials headed by Barangay Captain Joey R. Abequibel, Alpha Kapa Ro, Kappa Phi Epsilon, Alpha Sigma Omega, Tao Gamma Phi and Pi Omicron. Over 15 sacks of trash were collected by some 70 participants who took part in the event. ELCAC projects in Maasim break ground
MAASIM, Sarangani (February 21, 2022) – Some municipal and local officials lead the ceremonial groundbreaking of the construction of the Level II water supply and the concreting of the farm-to-market (FMR) road at Barangay Lumasal on February 16. The P16M-worth road concreting and the P4M-worth water supply rehabilitation and improvement are situated in Puroks 7A and Centro, respectively. The said projects will provide ease and convenience to the said communities particularly in delivering their farm goods from the upland down to the market. Once completed, the said projects will also benefit the armed forces in going to the town’s far-flung areas. De Peralta backs NTF-ELCAC projects
MAASIM, Sarangani (February 21, 2022) – Vice Governor Elmer De Peralta greets some locals during the groundbreaking ceremony of the P40M-worth National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) projects at Barangay Bales on February 16. De Peralta said the implementation of the said projects under ELCAC is now underway “because all the P20M intended for all the identified barangays have been downloaded.” He added, “this is the reason why our provincial government is never hesitant to pass a memorandum of agreement to download the fund to the municipality para mas mapabilis yung implementation ng program at magamit kaagad na ating constituents.” The projects are set to provide every identified barangay access to clean water and accessible roads through the concreting of farm-to-market roads. Maitum marks Oral Health Month
MAITUM, Sarangani (February 20, 2022) - "Brushing your teeth on a regular basis will help you avoid cavities and tooth decay. It is also crucial to use fluoride-rich toothpaste," says Dr. Mary Kenziah Galay, president of Philippine Dental Association General Santos Chapter, during the celebration of the 18th National Oral Health Month held at Gawad Kalinga Village in Barangay Mabay on February 17. She reminded everyone, particularly pregnant women, to consume calcium-rich foods for the better growth and development of the baby. Present during the event were Rural Health Unit Officer in Charge Dr. Marilyn Silauso, incoming president of Philippine Dental Association (PDA) Gensan Chapter Dr. Lydia Limjap, Regional Dentist Dr. Analiza Alo, retired Malungon Dentist Dr. Jean Galay, DepEd Nurse Renz Louis Bautista, Dr. Ma. Theresa Antoque, Susan S.Udog, Dr. Zamrod S. Remitar, and Dr. Daisy Dionio. The success of the event was also made possible through the help of Barangay Mabay officials Headed by Barangay Captain Baltazar Quilaton together with Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars. MAITUM, Sarangani (February 20, 2022) – Kids from Gawad Kalinga Eco Village enjoy brushing their teeth together as they join the celebration of National Oral Health Month with the theme “Brushing is a MUST. Kahit naka MASK” held at GK Eco Village in Barangay Mabay on February 17. Dental and oral health are important factors of general health and well-being. Without proper oral hygiene, bacteria can build up to the point where they cause oral infections including tooth decay and gum disease. According to research, oral health care plays a big role in preventing other diseases. This year’s celebration of oral health month reminds that regardless of the pandemic, where everyone is compelled to wear a mask and our teeth are concealed most of the time, it is still important to practice proper oral hygiene such as brushing at least three times a day. MAITUM, Sarangani (February 20, 2022) – The Municipality of Maitum joins the celebration of National Oral Health Month with the theme “Brushing is a MUST. Kahit naka MASK” held at Gawad Kalinga Cawa, Barangay Mabay on February 17. Provincial Dentist Dr. Laudencio Mendoza spearheaded the simultaneous tooth brushing for children. The event catered to children 5 years old and below, and pregnant women. During the event, a free toothbrush and toothpaste were provided. Governor Solon meets Kiamba officials
KIAMBA, Sarangani (February 17, 2022) – Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon greets some municipal and barangay councilors during his visit to Kiamba on February 14 during the “Fiesta Lunch” in line with the celebration of the town’s 18th Timpuyog Festival and its 74th Founding Anniversary. Solon had a brief discussion with the officials and commended them for their untiring service to their community. This year’s Timpuyog Festival is anchored in the theme “solidarity amidst present challenges”. The festival was celebrated following the minimum health standards against Covid-19.
