ALABEL, Sarangani (June 14, 2022) – Some heads of office and representatives of the different departments of the Capitol lead the wreath-laying rites on June 12 at the Capitol grounds in celebration of the 124th Philippine Independence Day or Araw ng Kalayaan. In the event, the Capitol employees were joined by the Philippine Army and Philippine National Police, together with PCOL Nidomedes Olaivar, Sarangani Police Provincial Office provincial director. By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 28, issued by then-president Diosdado Macapagal on May 12, 1962, the country celebrates the Araw ng Kalayaan on the 12th of June of every year, commemorating the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898. GENERAL SANTOS CITY (June 14, 2022) – Some 21 former rebels (FRs) take a pose together with some provincial social welfare and development office (PSWDO) staff and members of the armed forces during the healing and reconciliation session on June 8 at General Santos City. The activity was done to provide guidance on the spiritual, psychological and health aspects of the FRs. Also, all the FRs will receive livelihood training and packages from the Provincial Local Government Unit of Sarangani through its Social Welfare and Development Office and other partner agencies to help them start a new life away from rebellion and chaos. The said FRs surrendered during the first quarter of 2022. According to Lizette Lopez, provincial End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) focal person, under the leadership of Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon, more than 300 FRs surrendered and were given new opportunities such as livelihood skills and trainings. GENERAL SANTOS CITY (June 14, 2022) – Fiscal Elmer Lastimosa speaks before some police investigators from the seven municipal police stations (MPS) in Sarangani on June 8 during the "Investigation Seminar on Handling Illegal Drug Cases and 8 Focus Crimes" at Eulogia Hotel. PMaj. Joseph Forro III, chief provincial investigation and detection management unit (PIDMU) said, “what we are doing now ay yung counter measures natin because of the very remarkable resolution na ating natatanggap dahil mostly sa ating natatanggap na filed cases ay palaging nadi-dismiss.” Topics about the eight focus crimes were also discussed during the session, including murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping. A total of 21 FRs from Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum areas were part of the said activity. MAITUM, Sarangani (June 14, 2022) – Some municipal tribal leaders of Maitum hold a ritual offering for abundant harvest, blessings, guidance and protection called as “Damsu” in the Tboli tribe before the release of Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle on June 13 at Barangay Upo. According to Datu Fredimen Wanan, barangay tribal chieftain of Ticulab, “importante kining Damsu bag-o buhaton ang tanang importante og dagkong mga programa mapa-gobyerno man o tribu.” He added, “silbi kining sinugdanan para sa abonda og maayo natong mga bahandi sama aning Philippine Eagle nga blessing gyud para diri kanamo.” Wanan also appealed to the local governments of Sarangani and Maitum to help them in preserving their natural wealth “kay mao na lang niy nabiling garbo kanamo.” (Jake Narte-Joshua John Pantonial/SARANGANI PROVINCIAL INFORMATION OFFICE)

MAITUM, Sarangani (June 14, 2022) – Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) Executive Director Dennis Joseph Salvador expresses his gratitude to all the partnering organizations for the successful rehabilitation and release of Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle on June 13 at James Alfred Strong Integrated School in Barangay Upo. He thanked the provincial government of Sarangani headed by Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon, Deputy Speaker Congressman Ruel Pacquiao, Vice Governor Elmer De Peralta, the rest of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, the municipal government of Maitum headed by Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit for the strong support they are giving since the rescue of Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle up until its release back to its home. Salvador also emphasized the big role of the Alsons Power for providing funds and logistical support for the tracking and protection of Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle for the next three years. “This will involve the provision of an electronic tracker that will map the whereabouts of Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle,” Salvador said. MAITUM, Sarangani (June 14, 2022) – Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle flies back to its forest home at Barangay Upo on June 13. Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle was rescued in January 2021 after it was found trapped in the thorny rattan vines near Salagbanog Falls in Barangay Ticulab. According to Jayson Ibañez, director for research and conservation of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle is the second Philippine eagle that was rescued in Maitum. Ibañez added that Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle was a male juvenile monkey-eating-eagle who is around five years old. When it was rescued, Salagbanog/Sarangani Eagle had a marble lodged between its muscle and skin in its right shoulder. It also had an air-gun pellet visible on the same shoulder closer to the neck.
