ALABEL, Sarangani (October 8, 2020) – Evangeline Dumpa (in brown top), midwife from the Rural Health Unit of Alabel, performs a routine immunization on Measles-Rubella vaccine to a one-year old child from Alabel on October 6 at the Integrated Provincial Health Office, Capitol compound, during the Partners Meeting and Send-off for Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRSIA). The symbolic routine vaccination is done in preparation for the simultaneous MRSIA in Sarangani which will start on October 26 to November 25. According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Arvin Alejandro, the provincial health office has already targeted 57,828 children ages 9 months to less than 5 years old to be vaccinated against measles and rubella in Sarangani. “We have already cases of measles-rubella in the region, that is why ginagawa natin itong immunization activity to stop the impending outbreak for measles and rubella by giving additional doses of the MR vaccines to children,” said Arjohn Gangoso, Department of Health XII spokesperson. Gangoso noted that the vaccines are “for free”, and vaccinations will be done at “fixed immunization posts” like the rural health units, barangay health stations, and clinics.
