A Gina Lopez Community Food Bank for PJWA

MALAPATAN, Sarangani (September 2, 2020) – Celito “Toto” Terando (extreme left), Sulong Tribu program manager and ABS-CBN Foundation Site Specialist-Sarangani, turns over school supplies such as ink and bond paper to grade school teachers of far-flung Sitio Lanao IP School on August 29 at purok Jolohano, barangay Sapu Masla. The turnover ceremony was done during the project launching of Hapag Tulungan: A Gina Lopez Community Food Bank for Purok Jolohano Women’s Association (PJWA) through ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Kalikasan, in partnership with the provincial government of Sarangani and the local government of Malapatan. According to Terando, the “Hapag Tulungan” is a community food bank that was established to address hunger in times of limited mobility and greater need to secure food sources during times of crisis. The project includes “establishment of sustainable livelihood which are mariculture and fish processing, community essential store, backyard vegetables growing, and creation of community-based enterprise.” Terando also distributed rice assistance to PJWA members, and food packs and homeschooling kits to grade school learners. In Mindanao, purok Jolohano in Sapu Masla is the pilot area for the GL Community Food Bank project. (Jake Narte – Jori Mae Samillano/SARANGANI PROVINCIAL INFORMATION OFFICE)
