EMB XII, PENRO inspect SMWTF’s Pyroclave Optima

ALABEL, Sarangani (January 21, 2021) – Officers of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) XII and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) conduct a site visit at the Sarangani Medical Waste Treatment Facility (SMWTF) on January 20 at Barangay Bagacay. Rolando Tuballes, provincial environment and natural resources officer, presented the newly-installed Pyroclave Optima as part of the SMWTF. The Pyroclave Optima is a medical waste processor that uses pyrolysis or the process of decomposing waste materials using extreme heat without direct contact with the waste materials. Tuballes added, “this technology will be using thermal disinfection sa mga medical wastes from our hospitals in the province, especially katong mga infectious wastes, pathological wastes, pharmaceutical wastes, and syringes.” However, Tuballes disclosed that the facility has to go through processes before fully operating, and one of those is to acquire first an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) through conducting an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) review. The said machinery has also undergone its commissioning on July 24, 2020. (Jake Narte-Joshua John Pantonial/SARANGANI PROVINCIAL INFORMATION OFFICE)
