Best Practices in Developing Resiliency Strategies by LGU Malungon

MALUNGON, Sarangani (February 23, 2021) – Meralyn Fernando, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer II of the local government of Malungon, talks before guests and coordinators on February 17 at Mc Auce Hill in barangay Banahaw to share Malungon’s Best Practices in Developing Resiliency Strategies after they were hailed 3rd place in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) 2020, under the Resiliency Pillar. Of all the best practices of Malungon, Fernando said the “basic concept which is unity and collaboration of all partner offices, agencies as well as the community itself” is the most important. Fernando noted one best practice they have is that “the communities are not totally dependent on the local government. We capacitate them, series of training and IECs so that they are capable in responding to emergencies.” Fernando believed that the greatest factor in their achievement is truly the collaborative effort of everyone in their municipality, and the immense support of their leader, Mayor Tessa Constantino.
