Former rebels receive financial assistance from govt

ALABEL, Sarangani (March 4, 2021) – Some 72 former rebels (FRs) from all over Sarangani each receive P5,000 financial assistance and livelihood assistance from the national and local government agencies on February 26 at the Capitol gym. The releasing of assistance to the FRs was headed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, together with the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Task Force Balik-Loob, and the provincial government of Sarangani. The P5,000 cash assistance is an immediate assistance given to a rebel returnee who decided to surrender to the government and go back to the mainstream. According to DSWD Regional Director Cezario Joel Espejo, after giving the immediate cash assistance to the FRs, a livelihood assistance will follow in order to achieve “sustainability sa kanilang pagsanib sa pwersa ng gobyerno.” This is in accordance to the presidential mandate under Executive Order 70 or the Whole-of-Nation Approach where all local and national government agencies take part in the aim to end local communism and terrorism in the country.
