DA 12 signs MOA with Glan hog growers for the sentineling

GLAN, Sarangani (November 16, 2021) – Department of Agriculture Regional Office 12 signs a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the 100 identified hog growers from barangays Batulaki, Pangyan, Calabanit, Calpidong, and Cablalan in Glan whose livelihood were affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF). On behalf of Department of Agriculture (DA) regional office, Agriculturist II Andrew Kristian Baliton explained, the MOA stipulated the roles of the hog growers for the sentineling process or the monitoring to find out if an infectious disease, like ASF, or other harmful agents are present. “Pagka-receive ng baboy, hindi talaga nila pwedeng katayin or ibenta kasi within those 40 days, there is a series of blood collections na ico-conduct para po masiguro natin na ‘yung ating pag-apply for pink, yellow green and green zones.” This application will be supported with the blood samples, he said. Baliton further explained that “after ng 40 days, klaro po na kanila na ‘yung baboy kapag nag-successful tayo at wala ng ASF na mag-o-occur thru lab tests, ‘yun po ay kanila na.” However, he said, “if magkakaroon ulit tayo ng ASF case based doon sa conduct ng ating study,” the sentinel pigs will be taken from them. During the activity dubbed as “Babay ASF” on November 9, sentinel pigs, feeds and other veterinary products were turned over to the beneficiary hog growers.
