Scholarship program for children of former rebels

ALABEL, Sarangani (February 7, 2022) – Jeah Rose Sumaya from Sitio Akbbungkod, Barangay Kinam in Malapatan expresses her message of gratitude to the provincial government of Sarangani during the awarding of cash assistance to the beneficiaries of the Inclusive Program for Equal Access to Complete Education (IPEACE) on February 2 at the Capitol gym. Sumaya is 23 years old and is currently taking up her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Stratford International School in General Santos City. She is one of the 20 beneficiaries of the program who received P25,000 cash assistance which will be given to them annually to cover their tuition fee, book allowance, transportation and other school obligations. According to John Oliver Tablazon, Sarangani’s provincial youth development officer-designate, the 20 beneficiaries are the first batch of the program, “so continuous ito until they graduate sa kanilang chosen course.” Tablazon said that the awarded beneficiaries were endorsed by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office through the help of the 38th and 73rd Infantry Battalions. “Sila po yung napili natin dahil na-qualify sila doon sa criteria based sa EO No. 2 of Governor Steve kung saan nakasaad na priority ang ating youth who are part of the marginalized sectors coming from the poorest sector ng province."
