Volunteers plant mangrove seedlings

MAITUM, Sarangani (February 21, 2022) - The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) conducts a mangrove planting and coastal clean-up drive at Barangay Kalaong on February 18. At six o’clock in the morning, after the coastal clean-up drive, participants proceeded to Kalaong river banks for mangrove planting. The volunteers successfully planted about 520 mangrove seedlings in the area. Mangroves are considered as barriers during typhoons and floods. They protect coastal communities from destructive waves, storm surge and floods. They also provide a safe sanctuary for marine life. (John James Doctor – Abegail Novicio/ MAITUM INFORMATION OFFICE)
